The Baggage of Bitterness

All of us get are wounded at some point in time, and sometimes those wounds take a long time to heal. When those wounds go untreated, they have the ability to become baggage. We call this the baggage of bitterness because bitterness is the feeling of resentment that can lead to grudges. This week, as we continue our study of baggage, we focus on the baggage of bitterness in an attempt to not only define it, but also check it.…

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

In Revelation 4, the emphasis is on the throne, and that whole vision revealed that everything in all of creation is under the throne of God. In Revelation 5, the emphasis is on the Lamb, and that whole vision revealed that the Lamb is worthy of opening the scroll. In Revelation 6, the Lamb begins the process of opening the scroll and some seemingly strange events take place. However, we must not forget that this is a continuation of the…

The Baggage of Addiction

One of the most difficult types of baggage to check is the baggage of addiction. Sometimes it goes unchecked because the church overlooks it, assuming that it won’t happen to Christians. Other times it goes unchecked because those struggling with it are afraid of how they’ll be treated by the church if they reveal it. As we begin this new series of lessons, we will do so by first examining what the Bible has to say…

The Great I Lamb

John’s vision of God’s throne room in Revelation 4 reveled that everything revolves around the One on the throne. It is a beautiful reminder that God never abdicates His throne. But Revelation 5 does not begin with as beautiful of a scene. Instead, what John saw brought him to tears before it brought the heavenly audience to their knees. What does John see in the heavenly throne room of chapter 5 and what does it reveal to us today? Sermon…

Blurred Vision

Why do we fail to launch? Or, to ask it another way, why do we fail to initiate our God-given mission? One reason might be because we succumbed to spiritual nearsightedness, the inability to focus on that which is distant because your focus is always on that which is closest. This condition can be debilitating as evidenced by the life story of Israel’s first king, Saul. How did Saul suffer from spiritual nearsightedness and why did it prevent him from…
